Leo is a Technical Director in Mott MacDonald’s Civil Asset Management team (CAM), a chartered engineer and member of the Institute of Asset Management (IAM). He has 25 years of experience of the inspection and investigation of civil engineering structures and specialises in their assessment, management and life-extension. He has authored several standards and technical publications in this field, including new CIRIA guidance on the use of NDT techniques in investigations of construction materials and structures from the transport, power and water sectors.

In combination with other sources of data, NDT can be used in the processes that safely and efficiently manage structural assets. And yet, for a variety of reasons, the full potential of NDT in civil engineering is yet to be realised. The aim of the new guide Non-destructive testing of civil structures (C798) is to improve this situation by supporting a better-informed, and therefore more successful, application of NDT techniques within the sector.
