Marr Contracting

Simon is the Managing Director of Marr Contracting – a third-generation family-owned Australian business that is challenging the global construction industry to think differently about craneage solutions.

With over 35 years in the industry, Simon started in the family business as a yard boy cleaning bolts during the school holidays. Today, he is leading the business to challenge craneage methodologies and develop new craneage solutions for large-scale, complex projects across the globe.

He has overseen the successful delivery of craneage solutions for projects including: the 1915Çanakkale Bridge (Turkey), the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG Projects (Western Australia), Sydney Metro (Martin Place, Barangaroo, Castle Hill, Central and Crows Nest Stations), the ALBA Potline 6 (Bahrain), ICD Brookfield Place (Dubai) and ALEC One Za’abeel (Dubai).

Innovation at height - constructing the towers for the world’s longest suspended span

Opening in March 2022, Turkey’s 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be the world’s longest span suspension bridge. During the design phase, crane specialist Marr Contracting proposed an innovative heavy-lift approach for the construction of the bridge’s 318m-high towers. By leveraging the concept of modularisation and early client engagement, productivity and safety on site could be increased and the exacting construction programme accelerated. The heavy-lifting approach developed for the record-breaking bridge in the Dardanelles could be replicated in similar bridge projects around the world.
