Speaker : David Hester

David is a lecturer in structural Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Prior to joining QUB David worked in consultancy as a bridge engineer, focusing on design, inspection and assessment of bridges. Having seen first-hand the challenge of managing bridges primarily using information from visual inspections, David’s main research interest is on investigating if and where sensor data (relevant to the bridge) can provide information useful for decision support. Of particular interest are novel low cost systems for data collection, and computer algorithms for interpretation of the collected data.
